Liposuction Performed In Hospitals Is Preferred By Many! There may be several benefits to having a liposuction performed in the hospital. Any doctor who is performing liposuction with hospital privileges is likely to have been reviewed by the hospital board and staff. The hospital board and staff, by granting privileges, are willing to take a business risk based upon a given doctor’s competence. Unfortunately, nowadays all too many hospital staffs and boards are financially motivated. There are cases of specialists involved in limiting competition tactics, thus driving their charges higher. Still, the majority deciding to undergo cosmetic or plastic surgery, would prefer the hospital environment; for the simple reason, that if anything goes wrong, the help is instantly available. Another possible benefit of having a liposuction performed at a hospital is that by and large, hospitals contain competent and happy nurses and staff. As well, hospitals are used to managing complications, such as heart attacks, strokes, or allergic reactions to medicines. Of course this is not always true and there are no hard and fast rules. It is however, very difficult for a nursing staff who works with heart bypass or hip replacement patients most of the time to be versatile and give the same care to a liposuction patient as a nurse who principally specializes in cosmetic surgery patients. Unfortunately, there may also be disadvantages to having a liposuction performed in a hospital. On the average, hospitals cost more money for a patient than does in-office surgery. Hospitals have recently hired staffs that are not familiar with the patient or with their original encounters, and, therefore, hospital staff may not be fairly familiar with the medications and/or special fears or problems of tumescent liposuction patients. Some hospitals may have a cold, dark atmosphere compared with the warm atmospheres of many doctors' offices. Some hospitals will provide you with a substandard level of care, with their personnel virtually ignoring your needs. Understandably, hospitals must treat emergencies immediately. Another potential benefit of being in the hospital and having your liposuction performed in a hospital is that if you were to have a heart attack or other serious complication, there are usually teams of other doctors around the hospital who are experts in treating many problems. For example, if you are a patient who has seizures, there are neurologists, neurosurgeons, and other expert doctors available in most hospitals. There are many different units of resuscitating equipment, with many backups, available in a hospital (including several power sources although most accredited offices must have these as well). The redundancy and quality of power backup units is a hospital plus. So, these are some advantages and disadvantages if you consider the option of having your liposuction performed in a hospital. Another option is to have a liposuction in a specialized clinic for liposuctions. It can cost you more, but the services provided are of good quality, compared to a liposuction performed in hospital. Maybe the equipment is strictly for this purpose, of liposuction. So, in case of complications, you will be rushed to a hospital for further treatments. Either way you choose, consult your doctor and family in the decision making process. |
